We now have maps of our trails!  Click on the links to go to each map.  If you plan to print them out, be sure to set your printer on "landscape" for horizontal printing.  A higher resolution map is at each trailhead, and copies are also available at the Killingworth Library.
Thanks go out to Debby Butler, our Trails Committee Chairperson, for all the hard work she put into making these maps!

Along a Killingworth Trail....
Since our June 3rd Trails Day trip was rained out, we went out to hike a section of the Hammonasset River Trail.  This was organized by our Trails Committee Chair, Debby Butler.

We began at the trailhead at Bar Gate Trail.  Debby, in the back, facing the camera, is briefing the group on letterboxing and geocaching, which was part of the day's activity.
One of the hidden caches is found beneath a dead tree.
A chickadee is stamped on the journal for the next person to find.
Refreshments await at the end of the trail.

A HUGE boulder made traversing a section of our Hammonasset River Trail very difficult.

For years, we've wrestled with solutions, including just closing down that section of the trail.

Debby Butler refused to accept that.  She and Ted Dinsmore organized a crew and together, using leverage, prybars, chainsaws and back muscles, they pushed that boulder down the hill. Problem solved.

Thank you Ted Dinsmore, Dean, Mike & Matthew DiGregoio, Chic Phillips and Rich Anziano

Hikers can begin the trail at Route 80 (park by the bridge over the river, on the Madison side, cross the metal bridge below and look for reddish-orange blazes), or via one of the trail heads on Bar Gate Trail. Signboards host maps at each entrance. Hikers can experience two miles of riverside hiking, including small waterfalls, rapids, woods and great views. For info/maps on that trail, and others, go to our Trails page - here
